December Partner of the Month – Home Street Home

Home Street Home, Jumbled Dreams, Homelessness, Hunger

In February of 2018, Mom had been looking for new organizations to reach out to and partner with.  She found a very interesting organization called Home Street Home (HSH) Ministries.  Mom called and the founder was home that day and agreed to meet with us.  We researched and found out that Home Street Home is a:

“Full-time, faith-based 501 (c) (3) ministry dedicated to “changing the face of homelessness one person at a time”.  Operating on the principle of being R.E.A.L. in our service to the homeless community, we are focused on building lasting personal and supportive relationships while always remembering to Respect, Encourage, Accept and Love.”

Home Street Home, Jumbled Dreams, Homelessness, HungerLast February, we loaded up the car with some of the donations we had collected.  There were 15 bags of clothes, shoes, coats, and about 100 winter kits (socks, lip balm, gloves, hot hands, and tissues).  Steven Young, the founder, and our new friend was overwhelmed.  I told him all about my mission and he told me about his story.  He was actually homeless for over five years.  Talk about an eye-opening conversation!  After we shared our stories and a lot of laughs and hugs, we asked them if they would like to be a partner and he said YES!  I hugged Steven and left feeling so grateful and thankful for what I have and for what I’m trying to do.

Last May, Steven came and spoke to my club at Ravenwood High School, Echos for Hope, about his story and how the students can help make a difference in their community, and come and volunteer with him.

Since then, Steven and HSH have been in the media numerous times and recognized by country music stars Jason Aldean, Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line, and multiple others. They have raised over $250,000 dollars to help Steven continue helping others on the streets. His mission and goal show how much he cares.

Once on the streets and now has a home and is helping other people and changing so many lives. That is why HSH is our partner of the month!
