Christmas Dreams Round Two

Second-year providing gifts, hope, and dreams. Second-year seeing smiles. Second-year showing love and support to the homeless. The first year was incredible so we expected the second year to be the same. Yes, it was amazing; but a lot more was going on than the year before.

This year, we had the police who kept the crowd in order. Most of the time when you arrive the homeless swarm you because they just want to make sure they get the help they need. They are so afraid you are going to run out of items if they have to get in line.

This year, we had more items and supplies. My friend used his truck to help transport all the items to downtown. This year, thanks to your donations, we had blankets, first- aid kits, hot chocolate, candy, toiletries, and winter kits.

This year, there were not as many homeless. While the drop in the number of homeless is a good problem to have, we had leftover supplies.  For most that would be great but we know there are still people out there who need our help. We know they do.

This year there was a whole lot of love. Some of our homeless friends that we know really well, screamed our names in excitement, came and hugged us, and told us what they had been up to since the last time we saw them. One had a loss, one had a home, and one was full of laughs.

Our teens loved talking to the homeless and never wanted to leave. It was time for the event to be over and they wanted to stay and talk to them for just a little bit longer they said.

You make a difference in someone’s life by a simple shampoo or asking who they are and what their story is.

Here is a story about Kathy:

“Meet Kathy. She has a home now but currently does not have any heat. She comes down on Monday nights to see and talk to her friends but she never asks for anything. Her birthday was in December right before Christmas and so we took her a box of items needed for her house and then a red velvet cake! She currently splits food stamps with her brother and does the best she can! We love you, Kathy!”
