Spirit and Socks

Homeless, SOcks, CHick Fil A, Sydnee, Jumbled Dreams

When I started working at Chick-fil-a, I did not realize how busy it could be. But I quickly learned, Chick-fil-a is always busy! ALWAYS! And I absolutely love my job:  the fast pace, amazing guests, and the best staff/friends ever. But no work experience so far compares to the shift I just worked.

Tonight was a spirit night; I had worked multiple spirit nights before this one so I just expected it to be the same routine. Oh, how wrong I was. To start, the cause was different than others I had ever worked. Tonight we were trying to raise money to pay medical expenses for a little boy who had a brain tumor.

Normally we have a pretty busy shift when we have a spirit night, but I have never seen anything like what I witnessed tonight. I get on the clock at 4, and my job is to do cash for the drive-through.  That means I am the person who takes your money and gives you your food. Normally from 4-5, we have hardly any cars and then after that, we are busy for the rest of the night. Tonight we happened to also be understaffed because of sickness. At 4 o’clock we were so busy! For inside ordering, we had a line out the door, and the drive-through was out of our parking lot. This continued for the next three hours. So many people showed up for the spirit night.

One woman asked me what was going on, and so I explained to her about the spirit night and the medical bills for the little boy.  She started crying because it was such a good cause and she wanted to make sure that part of her meal charge went to help pay the bills. And it did because that is how spirit night works.  Chick-fi-a gives a percentage of each purchase to the represented cause.

I finished my shift at 7 totally worn out but completely blessed, but my night of helping others was not over. I received a message that over 28 pounds of socks for the homeless or for others who need socks had arrived at my house in the mail from a Jumbled Dreams supporter.  She knew our needs and wanted to help!

This has been the most perfect night!  It’s wonderful to see so many people wanting to help others, first with the spirit night and second with the socks. I feel so excited and blessed. Thank you!
