Hiking for a Cause

Hike for a Cause, Jumbled Dreams, Volunteering, Corporate Responsibility

The smiles you see when families cross the finish line after completing a 2-3-mile hike is everything, but what is even better is that those families are hiking for the homeless. People from all over the Nashville area came out to hike and to show their support for Safe Haven.

Safe Haven is a family shelter that houses families during their hardships. They also provide assistance to families who have a home but do not have basic survival skills. Safe Haven teaches the parents how to get a job, find a home, save money, and take care of their children.

Our job, as volunteers, was to be personal cheerleaders as the families crossed the finish line and to make sure that they were directed back to the main festivities. Although this sounds like a silly job, it was so much fun and people really enjoyed our enthusiasm in keeping the spirit alive.

The families, volunteers, and workers who participated in the hike raised money to help Safe Haven reach its fundraising goal of $150,000.  This money goes toward Safe Haven’s next year’s budget so they can continue to help families in need to stay together and to get back on their feet.

Are you involved in your community?  There are events and opportunities out that would welcome your help and participation.  We encourage you to get involved.  It’s very rewarding to put a smile on someone’s face!
