Shopping at the Manger

Grace Works Ministries, The Manger, Jumbled Dreams, Making a Difference

It’s almost Christmas! For many people, this is their most favorite time of the year. But to parents and grandparents who cannot afford to purchase Christmas gifts for their loved ones, it can be tough.

We were fortunate enough to work with GraceWorks Ministries to help families select Christmas gifts for their loved ones by working at The Manger.  When families entered The Manger room, they were surrounded by volunteers in reindeer headbands and blinking Christmas light necklaces, the sound of Christmas carols, and gifts everywhere they looked.

The Manger, now in its 28th year, displays toys and adult and teen gifts in a store-like setting to allow families to select their own gifts. Families are accompanied by personal shoppers, have their gifts wrapped and are helped to their cars in a caring and merry atmosphere.

Each of our volunteers became personal shoppers and helped the families find the perfect Christmas gifts.  Each child got three gifts and one stocking stuffer, 1 book, and one board game!

Each family who came to The Manger had a story.  We got to listen to their stories and become friends with them.  It was a touching inspiring way to spend a night with my friends.  We all left with smiles on our faces and love in our hearts feeling grateful for what we had and knowing we all wanted to do more.
