During a sparsely stormy afternoon on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, the Brentwood Point Clubhouse was full of kind people eager to lend a helping hand. A few families brought their little ones, and they wound up contributing tremendously to our efforts—we reached our goal ahead of schedule!
Together, we packed care packages for both Home Street Home Ministries and Bridge Builders, Inc. Between all 36 volunteers and 104 total hours volunteered, we packed an astounding 13,640 donated items!
The efforts from our friends resulted in great results:
We prepared 500 pairs of socks in partnership with Bridge Builders, Inc. and Bombas® to support students who need them while returning to school.
Bridge Builders works hard to empower underserved populations in Nashville with programs that support students, offering mentors and supporters through programs like the School Supply Closet, their cornerstone initiative to remove the burden of acquiring school supplies for families facing financial challenges.
Daniel Craig, the Founder and CEO of Bridge Builders, Inc. spoke to the group about the impact these socks can have on youth who just need help to jumpstart their education. He also spoke about how long he has known Sydnee, our Executive Director, and how they have worked together to grow their positive impact over the years.
We also packed 250 backpacks—containing one toiletry bag, one summer bag, and one snack bag—and 75 additional toiletry bags for Home Street Home Ministries to deliver directly to people experiencing homelessness in Nashville.
Steven Young, the Founder and Executive Director of Home Street Home Ministries, spoke about his story of experiencing homelessness himself and finding salvation, then giving back to the people still suffering. He authored a book on just that, called From Chains to Change.
When speaking to the group, he focused primarily on the incoming up-to-105 heat index and the risk to life that it presents to people without access to cool spaces or water. He noted that we lose over 100 people every year due to the dangers of living outside. He also told the story of 7 years ago when then 12-year-old Sydnee suddenly appeared in his driveway one day, eager to get involved in helping people and finding ways to increase her impact.
Safe to say, Sydnee has found her passion in just that and now has so many people supporting her. I just know she is so very grateful for all the folks who show up to support this work!
This just shows the criticality of these care packages, and of having compassion during extreme weather. Metro Nashville is offering cool rides to safe locations as well as performing outreach, but Home Street Homes acts around the clock to provide support to those who are the most vulnerable during extreme heat or storms.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Jumbled Dreams family, all of our partner organizations, volunteers, and donors, for making Saturday both a highly productive and special experience.
