This past week, I had the absolute privilege of partnering with my beloved sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, to host a special initiative that truly touched my heart. Our event, titled Zealous Cards of Encouragement, was a week-long service project centered around one simple yet powerful idea: the ability of kind words to uplift the spirit. The goal was straightforward — to bring a little light, joy, and encouragement to children receiving care at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Throughout the week, we invited students, faculty, and members of the community to write a heartfelt message and every card was made with love and intention. The response was incredible. Over the course of the initiative, we collectively created more than 100 beautifully handwritten cards, each one radiating compassion, warmth, and positivity. It was deeply moving to witness so many people, many of whom had never met these children, come together to offer hope and encouragement to young patients facing difficult times. There’s something truly powerful about taking the time to write a note to someone you’ve never met. In a world that often moves fast and feels disconnected, Zealous Cards of Encouragement reminded us all of the importance of empathy and human connection. As I prepare to deliver these cards to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, I carry with me a sense of pride, gratitude, and deep hope. I hope that our words bring a moment of peace, a spark of joy, or even just a smile to a child’s face. More than anything, I hope they feel seen, loved, and supported. To my sisters of Zeta Phi Beta, to everyone who contributed a card, and to the staff at Vanderbilt who do such important work every day, thank you. This initiative was a beautiful reminder that even small gestures can make a big difference. Here’s to continuing the work of service, sisterhood, and love, one handwritten message at a time.
