Building Jumbled Dreams

Oh, how exciting it is to have a day off of school.  You know why?  So I can build Jumbled Dreams!

On January 21st, I was out of school for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Dr. King was very inspiring and wanted so much to give so I decided to take the day to give to building Jumbled Dreams.

Jumbled Dreams, Sydnee FloydUp and ready early, I headed over to our local Chick-fil-A at Thoroughbred Square in Franklin, TN.  We met with the Community Manager about partnering with us and some fundraising events!  It went very well and they were excited to not only partner with us and help organize two fundraising spirit nights, but to also donate to our Chick-fil-A, Jumbled Dreams, Making a Differencecause!  To make it even better, we got to eat breakfast too!

Mom had been looking around for new organizations to reach out to and partner with.  She found a very interesting organization called Home Street Home Ministries.  Mom called and the founder was home that day and agreed to meet with us.  We researched and found out that Home Street Home is a:

“Full-time, faith-based 501 (c) (3) ministry dedicated to “changing the face of homelessness one person at a time”.  Operating on the principle of being R.E.A.L. in our service to the homeless community, we are focused on building lasting personal and supportive relationships while always remembering to Respect, Encourage, Accept and Love.”

We loaded up the car with some of the donations we had collected.  There were 15 bags of clothes, shoes, coats, and about 100 winter kits (socks, lip balm, gloves, hot hands, and tissues.) Steven Young, the founder and our new friend, was overwhelmed.  I told him all about my mission and he told me about his story.  He was actually homeless for over five years.  Talk about an eye-opening conversation!  After we shared our stories and a lot of laughs and hugs, we asked them if they would like to be a partner and he said YES!  I hugged Steven and left feeling so grateful and thankful for what I have and for what I’m trying to do.

Next, I traveled across Nashville to meet with a very special lady who manages Sam’s Club.  Trish was so welcoming and willing to listen to my story.  She told us about all of the work that Sam’s Club supports.  It was really interesting.  Trish agreed to help support our application for a grant of $1,000 AND she said that if we wanted to let her know when we had events that she would let her employees and their families know so they can volunteer if they are available to do so.  I thought that was just so cool!  What a great opportunity to spread the news about Jumbled Dreams!

Jumbled Dreams, Sydnee FloydMy final stop of the day was to drop off some gently used bras that had been donated to us to Project Uplift.  A friend of mom’s works for Essential Bodywear and they were doing this campaign to help women who have lost everything due to any reason such as natural disasters to homelessness.  Bras are an essential item for women so it was cool to find a very rewarding and genuine way to make a difference with them.

A day off is never boring. What a busy amazingly blessed Monday!
